Note: Players must wear baseball hats and jerseys at each game.
Interlocking with Paradise
The 9U Select program interlocks with Paradise Minor Baseball, allowing selected players to play real games using 11U rules. This helps prepare players for the transition from 9U to 11U.
Key Differences
- Players can pitch and catch.
- Strikeouts are in effect.
Registration: Must be registered with CBS Kiwanis Minor Baseball in the 9U division. First come, first served basis.
Game Schedule
- Location: Kiwanis or Peter Barry Duff (small field)
- Time: Fridays, 6:00 - 8:00 PM (weather permitting)
Session Structure
Warm-up (15 Minutes)
Players should arrive at least 15 minutes early to stretch and warm up.
Game Duration (2 hours)
- Coaches aim for 6 innings; no new inning after 1 hour and 45 minutes.
- Each inning consists of 3 outs or 3 runs (whichever comes first).
- No open inning.
Playing Field Dimensions
- Bases: 60 feet apart
- Pitching rubber to home plate: 44 feet
Rules of Play
- Follow official baseball rules, along with any specific rules outlined here.
- Teams field 9-10 players, with the 10th as an extra outfielder.
- Coaches must rotate players to ensure fair play and safety.
- Score is kept by coaches.
- Catchers and pitchers must wear protective cups.
- All batters must wear helmets when on deck, at bat, or on bases.
- Players must run on and off the field between innings.
- Bunting is NOT allowed.
- Infield fly rule does NOT apply.
- Runners can tag up after a caught fly ball.
- No advancing on a dropped third strike.
- Pitchers can pitch a maximum of 2 innings per game.
- No lead-offs or base stealing.
- Strikeouts are permitted.
- No 4-pitch walks; after 4 balls, the coach delivers up to 3 pitches.
- Batters cannot be called out on a foul ball.
- Hit by pitch rules apply for both player and coach pitches.
Batting Lineup
A consistent batting lineup will be maintained throughout the season. The “On Deck†player from the previous game will start the next game’s lineup.
Coaches
- Coaching Staff: 2 or 3 coaches per team (1 Head Coach, 2 Assistants).
- Umpires: Home plate and base umpires provided.
Responsibilities
- Head Coach: Manages line-ups and substitutions, coaches a base during hitting.
- Assistant Coaches: Support the head coach, keep players safe on the bench, and call out batting orders.
Focus
Encourage fun and learning. The goal is to prepare for 11U while fostering a supportive environment rather than focusing on competition.
